AGM Votes

Following legal advice the following changes need to be made to the Continuing Professional Development programme and will be voted on at the Annual General Meeting of the Institution.

1. CPD Requirements and Auditing and Membership Implications

CPD requirements will be defined on an annual basis. Regulation 1 of the Articles of Association changes from “Each Incorporated member is required to achieve a minimum of 5 points per annum, averaged over the immediately preceding three year period” to “Each Incorporated member is required to achieve a minimum of 5 points per annum.”

Each member will be required to provide an annual return of their CPD Log by the end of December of the preceding year. This log will take a form similar to that used by most professional bodies including the Law Society and requires members to list the duration and details of each type of CPD activity undertaken during the previous year.

The CPD Monitoring Working Group of EduCOM will carry out an audit of, typically, 5% of members per annum which will require the member to produce proof of each CPD activity. If a member is found to have incorrectly logged their activities this will be dealt with according to the disciplinary procedures currently in review.  The onus is therefore on each member to ensure that they are compliant. Requirements are detailed on the Education & CPD section of the institution’s website.

Members who fail to make an annual return of their CPD Log will not be issued with their Annual Membership Certificates (see point 2) and will be required to pay full, non-member costs for IIS or affiliated CPD activities. These individuals will also be excluded from member-only activities (e.g. courses related to licensing or the acquisition of the title of professional surveyor for boundary surveys) and will effectively be suspended from membership, meaning they cannot use IIS affiliation on their correspondence, etc. until they have demonstrated that they have met the institution’s CPD requirements.

2. Proof of Membership

Proposal: in January 2010 all members, subject to on time payment and fulfilment of their CPD requirements, will be issued will a new annual membership identifier (exact format to be decided) which has limited validity of one year only.

To facilitate this change invoicing and payment will move to November and early December, respectively, to ensure that members receive their cards/certificates for the new year in a December mailing.
