The following list of online mapping and GIS resources provide a useful source of reference information for both site reconnaissance and research purposes.
Ordnance Survey Ireland OSi online shop: This site provides a map viewer through the 'buy now' link on the website which contains the following OSi layers and allowing you purchase maps online for different purposes.
OSi Historic mapping: This is a subscription based map viewer for browsing and purchasing mapping from the OSi historic archive going as far back as the 1829-1841 6 inch series.
National Monuments Service: This website provides a map viewer with a query builder and download facility for viewing the archaeological sites and monuments database from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. This sites server uses ArcIMS and can be linked to directly from ESRI ArcExplorer or similar GIS software

National Parks & Wildlife Service: This site provides a map viewer and query builder in the same format as the National Monuments Service map viewer and hosts the National Parks & Wildlife datasets from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

Geological Survey of Ireland: The GSI website provides a wealth of geological data together with many other datasets from the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.
